The battle of countertops – Granite, marble or quartz?

You need to ensure that your kitchen worktops and countertops are durable and functional. Most homeowners don’t realize that aesthetic appeal doesn’t matter as much as the other two aspects. Kitchen countertops are used extensively, so you have to be sure of the investment. If you contact vendors like Granite au Sommet in Laval, they will probably recommend three very smart choices – Granite, marble or quartz. Which one is better for your home? In this post, we are discussing some of the basic aspects that are worth delving into.

    Granite, marble or quartz decoded

Both granite and marble are natural stones and are extremely durable. Quartz, on the other hand, is made of 90% ground quartz matched with manmade resin and polymers. In other words, quartz is manmade, so you are likely to find a wide range of patterns and designs, while in case of granite and marble, chances are high that no two slabs would look the same. This could be an advantage or a disadvantage, depending on how you see it. For instance, some people just like the lack of uniformness and perfection in granite and marble, while others who want to stick to the theme often stick to quartz.

    Selecting an option

Reviewing the pros and cons of quartz, granite and marble is absolutely necessary, and it largely is dependent on the needs of your home. For example, if you are a frisky person in the kitchen, you can do better with quartz, granite countertops that don’t need as much as attention as marble. Marble is porous and prone to staining. You have to be extremely careful with marble countertops, and the material has to be sealed at least once in few years. Granite too is porous but not as much, and staining is not much of a concern if you go for the darker colors. Quartz doesn’t require any sealing at all, and maintenance is a breeze.

    Final word

We recommend that you contact a vendor and ask them for advice. That’s the best possible way of selecting between the three. If you don’t use worktops as much or don’t mind spending on maintenance, marble is a decent choice, while both quartz, granite are similar in certain aspects. Also, get estimates based on samples, so that you can select one that fits your budget. After all, your budget is a concern for selecting any material for the kitchen.
